When I was in college a few years ago, I constantly missed home as I was too far away to go back home whenever I wanted to. My mother used care packages to remind me of home and that I was not forgotten.

There were a few holidays that I had to sacrifice so that I won't lost study time (I'm a nerd, yes). So during which, mom will always send some thoughtful gifts from home. She usually sends decorations for my room and gift cards for nearby eateries so that I could celebrate the holiday in some way.

Whenever I get badly sick, mom would always have something sent to me. From soup and crackers to a DVD of my favorite movies. This always cheered me up.
